When you come into our Cleckheaton dental practice for your first appointment, you will be greeted by a member of our helpful and friendly reception staff, who will be able to answer many of your questions.
You will be asked to complete a medical history form. It is important to complete this fully, including any medical conditions you may have or medications you may be taking, because this can affect some of your treatment options. Please try to arrive early for your first appointment so that you have enough time to complete your form.
When you are taken to meet your dentist, they will consult your medical history form and will ask you about any problems you may be experiencing, as well as finding out what your aspirations are for treatment. Whether you have a specific issue that has brought you into the practice, require a general dental check-up, or are interested in using cosmetic dentistry to create the smile of your dreams, your dentist will establish your wants and needs before performing a thorough clinical examination.
This clinical examination will include a thorough check of your teeth, gums, and surrounding structures, and a mouth cancer check as standard. As with any form of cancer, early detection is key, so if we spot anything suspicious we will refer you to a hospital consultant for further investigation.
At the end of your examination, your dentist will draw up a customised treatment plan, including details of all required treatment, number of appointments and projected costs. Depending on your individual needs, you may have all your appointments with the same dentist, or may be referred to colleagues as appropriate.
Any required dental hygiene appointments, with our hygienist or hygiene therapist, will also be included in your treatment plan, and you will be invited to book your future appointments with our practice manager or receptionists.
